These coatings incorporate an anti -microbial agent, usually based on ionic silver, that is slowly released by the action of moisture. Microbes deposited on the surface are destroyed preventing or reducing the build up of bio film. See feature "The Scourge of Biofilm". Nylon R-AM has a natural tendency to absorb and release moisture leading to very effective renewal and persistance of its anti-microbial properties. It also has the advantage of being much more chip and wear resistant than other powder coatings, reducing the likelyhood of any scratches or chips where microbes could proliferate.
